Impact Construction offers a wide variety of residential and commercial construction services - building, painting, plastering asbestos remediation - they have the expertise and workforce to tackle just about any project that comes their way.
any client who needs construction can hire Impact - residential or commercial. they guarantee high-quality work that is completed on time and on budget. hiring them has an added bonus - they provide a social benefit to the community.
The program began with Choices for Youth’s “Training for Trades” program, which gave youth participants the opportunity to learn construction skills. the program was a success, and Choices for Youth transitioned it into a fully operational social enterprise. this gave young people the opportunity to earn a living while also receiving training for future employment.
Brian Hanley, General Manager of Impact, says, “We give [youth] meaningful work experience and then we help them transition into a role as a professional tradesperson.”
What makes Impact Construction special is the impact it has on the lives of its trainees. young people are able to take part in all the training they need for their job, including WHMIS and First Aid training, and they are provided with all safety equipment they need, and they are provided with breakfast and lunch items on workdays.
they also spend six hours per week learning “soft” skills - life management skills such as writing resumes and filling out tax returns. There is no set end date for the work - the youth transition into other employment when they feel that they are ready. When they do move on to other employment or education opportunities, young people are still able to access support and programming from Choices for Youth.
Impact Construction is one of the three Choices for Youth social enterprises that employ young people who face barriers to finding sustainable work. the goal is to help youth trainees to learn new skills so that they can obtain meaningful employment, or pursue post-secondary education.
