Neighbourhood
clothing shop
38 Pearson Street, St. John's
If you were designing a giant walk-in closet, it might look like Neighbourhood. it’s a bright open space with racks and racks of great clothes organized by size and style.
Located in the old east end of St. John’s, Neighbourhood is a family-friendly inclusive thrift store selling clothes, shoes, accessories, bags, belts, you name it! there are unique and stylish pieces on every rack - you never know what you’ll find and it changes every. designer labels show up all the time! and, they have blanket pricing - no item costs more than $12, and all children’s items are $1 each. this keeps things affordable and accessible. as they say in the store - it’s all good.
Neighbourhood came into being in part from the volume and quality of clothing donations to Choices for Youth. the volume exceeded the demand and Choices saw an opportunity to provide a service to the community, fundraise, generate employment opportunities, and keep good wearables out of the landfill.
Neighbourhood staff take on all the tasks around the store - customer service, cleaning, stocking, processing donations, loading and unloading donation trucks.
Choices for Youth aims to see more Neighbourhood stores open across the province. as the store manager says, “everybody starts somewhere. with Choices, we are a supportive and inclusive employer, and we love helping young people build a bridge to new opportunities.”. Neighbourhood accepts donations of gently used wearable items on-site.
Neighbourhood is one of the three social enterprises of Choices for Youth. the social enterprises employ youth who have barriers to finding sustainable work with the goal of helping them learn new skills so that they can obtain meaningful employment, or pursue post-secondary education.
