Gaze has your back! previously known as Gaze Seed Co., the company started in 1925 and was the first store of its kind in Newfoundland. under the new name and the leadership of Peter Byrne, great grandson of founder Ernest W. Gaze, The Seed Company by E.W. Gaze now operates from Harbour Drive.
The Seed company has a wide range of products from fertilizers, pest control, garden supplies, organic products, to flower seeds, herb seeds, fruit seeds and vegetable seeds. from your typical jiggs dinner vegetables like carrots, beets, turnip, and potatoes, to bell peppers, spicy jalapenos and cannabis.
the company carries local, natural products, like one of their suppliers that makes fertilizer out of kelp seaweed. the company gets the seeds from a variety of trusted sources - local farmers, organic seeds, and suppliers from all over the world, having ensured that seeds can be grown in our climate through outdoors or in a greenhouse.
The Seed Company is big on local, sustainability and community engagement, from delivering workshops on urban farming to social media groups. “it is good to promote knowledge about growing food in NL and keep that conversation going,” says Assistant Manager Jackson McLean. with its new location and invigorated attitude, the The Seed Company wants to grow. Jackson says, “we would like to expand and open stores that will become part of the community and serve as centres of knowledge about growing food in NL."
