Right on the Bay of Islands, in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, there is a unique place of wellness, restoration, and vacation.
Visitors to Corner Brook find all the good things in Coastal Lookout Suites. Right on the Bay of Islands, with majestic fjords in one direction, mountains in another, and the cool small City vibe thrumming away, it’s serene, exciting and restorative all at once.
Bright, new, with clean lines and great design, Coastal Lookout Suites has four spacious executive suites each with a gorgeous ocean view and private bath. There are shared common areas with a spacious gourmet kitchen and lounge, and large deck and outdoor firepit overlooking the Bay. The wi-fi is cracking - set up so all guests can stream in high definition.
Coastal Lookout Suites offers a unique combination to meet the needs of business, health, and vacation travelers. Mark Biggin is the host, and the five-star Google reviews say it all.
Mark says, “The immersion in nature, the restorative effect of the ocean sight and sound and air, and the layout of the space at Coastal offers all travelers what they need for the best experience.
Maybe it depends on where you come from, but the fact that Corner Brook has winter, spring, summer and fall is worthy of note to some.
From Coastal Lookout suites you can find and experience scenic beauty year-round. Snow in winter for all types of skiing - downhill, cross country, back-country and world class snowmobiling. In spring the icebergs make their way down iceberg alley. Summer is all about outdoors - hiking, river rafting, salmon fishing, swimming, cod jigging, but there’s also the vibrant theatre and community activities. In fall, crisp air and colours of the forest restore the sense of being alive in the world, and there are major sporting events on the go - like the Long Range Enduro, and Moose hunting to further make that point.
Coastal Lookout Suites is near the heart of the City, peppered with shops and breweries, restaurants and cafes. The area is also a living celebration of Indigenous culture and craft.
Along with the spectacular views and the gorgeous space, Coastal Lookout offers very special extra touches. Sometimes it’s difficult to get a rental vehicle in Newfoundland and Labrador. Coastal Lookout guests can access the facility’s Ford Bronco for local travel. The five-seater rig has a roof carrier and that makes day-trip adventures to Marble, to Gros Morne, or around the Bay easy and fun. You can find this rental on ‘Turo’ a ride sharing app.
Not only is Coastal Lookout Suites a great place to stay, it combines excellence in accommodations with state-of-the-art physiotherapy services, all under one roof.
Coastal Lookout Suites accommodation space is complemented by Mocean Physiotherapy (sounds like ‘motion’).
Merging the services of physiotherapy and accommodations may not seem obvious, but once you know the two behind it, the link becomes crystal clear.
The common focus is wellness, and the two lines come together with the work of partners in life and business, Mark Biggin and Julia Goudie. Their little one provides added inspiration for building a healthy world.
The two are active outdoor and sport enthusiasts, and hugely passionate about their home province. Mark is a project manager from the Great Northern Peninsula. Julia is a physiotherapist from the south coast of Labrador.
Being from rural communities, they grew up knowing first hand the challenges of recovering from a sports injury when, typically, the nearest physiotherapist might be a day’s drive away.
Mark says, “Physio is a foundation of restorative health care, and optimal recovery is supported by environmental factors. We set up Mocean knowing that our client base would come from communities right up the Great Northern Peninsula and Labrador, so often they will need a place to stay. With its view of the ocean and clean design, Coastal Lookout Suites offers its own supportive therapy, under the same roof. There’s physio, there’s natural therapy, there’s an escape from the everyday. It’s an unusual business model, but it’s working!”
He adds, “For those traveling for health services at Mocean the therapeutic effects are amped up - and we offer a special rate for Mocean clients. It comes together nicely!”
Julie Goudie is the founder and team lead at Mocean Physiotherapy and Wellness. (five star reviews on Google!). From its bright, clean state-of-the-art space on Humber Road, Mocean offers the full range of physio services, from concussion treatment to dry needling with speciality in orthopaedic and sports injury, with of course the magnificent ocean view.
Julia is an advocate for healthy lifestyles, and a strong believer in the health benefits of natural environments. That was a key factor in her returning home to Newfoundland and Labrador after practicing in Fort McMurray.
She’s earned a stellar reputation as a physiotherapist, a healer, and a wellness advocate. Her clientele cover the full range of physio, from athletic/sports injuries, balance and mobility, orthopedic, geriatric, paediatric, neurological, to motor vehicle accidents and TMJ. Mocean also works with people recovering from breast cancer post is life-changing.
She says, “Even in the middle of treatment which can be hard work, clients comment on how much they love the view from our space. And it’s more than a feeling - our physical environment, like being near the ocean, can have a positive impact on restoration and recovery. It can reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance overall psychological health. That’s important.”
“From Mocean to Coastal, wellness is what our business is all about,” says Mark. “And we believe community is essential to wellness.”
Mocean and Coastal love investing in community in ways that align with their core business and core values - activity, wellness, and health-promotion. At sports events you might find Julia or another member of the team taping athletes to keep ligaments in line. Mark serves as Director for community sports organization. The team partners with other interests to host retreats, and donations from Mocean and Coastal Lookout Suites show up at community auctions.
The Mocean and Coastal partnership isn't just about physiotherapy and accommodations; it's a celebration of wellness, community, and the vibrant spirit of a destination where nature meets restoration, and guests embark on a journey of holistic healing.
