playoutdoors 2: hike~woods~ocean a hit!

The second #playoutdoors event this summer couldn’t have gone any better!  thegreenrock.ca, the Junior Forest Wardens and with the amazing East Coast Trail volunteer Terry Horwood at the fore, led a line of families from Torbay to Middle Cove in the Silver Head Mine Path.  

What an adventure!

The weather was ideal, and the crowd was pumped! hike~woods~ocean was a hiking event with a visual scavenger hunt. Participants were invited to take in the beautiful scenery while being conscious of their environment with the help of the little picture booklets provided. 

The Silver Mine Head Path is a fabulous hike from Torbay to Middle Cove beach. The sights were breathtaking, and the weather allowed for many great photos as you can see!  greenrock-ers and Conservation Corps NL Green Team Members Jamille Lawlor and Eniola Folarin shared some ocean facts with the crowd as they hiked. Healthy snacks and water were readily available at the start and end of the hike where we all gathered at Middle Cove beach to watch the waves and relax. Here’s some more photos from the event.

Many of the participants had never been on that hiking trail before and some were even new to the province!   It was totally beautiful, a little bit challenging, and a great coming together of families and cultures.  One minor loss – a young hiker lost his shoe to the Atlantic. 

It was wonderful to be able to share many joyful moments with them and they expressed their excitement and anticipation for the third and final #playoutdoors event.
